OBJECTIVE
To obtain an editor position that will enable me to use my creative and technical background, strong organizational skills, and my ability to work well with people.
EXPERIENCE
Freelance and Staff Editor - Los Angeles
For several decades, I have made a name for myself as a freelance and staff editor, working with the CBS News Los Angeles Bureau and dozens of Los Angeles based production companies. My work includes editing hour long shows for numerous reality series such as “The Christopher Lowell Show,” “Moral Court” and “Wild and Crazy Kids;” segments for “Design on a Dime,” “House Hunters” and “America Now;” and full length documentaries such as “Intimate Strangers,” “A Century of Living,” “Orchestrating Change” and “Backfired: When VW Lied to America.” I have also worked on numerous short-term projects for small and mid-size companies, editing fundraising videos for many non-profit organizations. Other projects included editing promos and trailers, corporate marketing presentations and sizzle reels.
With many production companies, I used my technical abilities to install and maintain in-house editing systems. I also acted as the supervising editor and postproduction supervisor on several series. I am also a “go to editor” when a story or segment has structural issues and can rework a project on my own in order to get it approved by the executive producers and the distributor. On lower budgeted projects, I have completed color grading and audio sweetening on my home-based system. My deliverables have been accepted by PBS and other world-wide distributors. I own licensed editing and graphics software, including Avid Symphony, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. I am also proficient in After Effects and Photoshop.
Ralph Herman Productions – Phoenix
During this time, I worked for CBS News Los Angeles on a freelance basis as a remote technician and editor. I also worked for a number of local production companies as a freelance videographer and editor.
In addition, I worked as a videographer with studio and remote production crews for the City of Phoenix’s cable TV station, as an editor for KPNX-TV and as a studio director for a number of distance-learning courses at Arizona State University.
I also started my own production company, including creating commercials for local businesses and a multi-part training course for caregivers about hearing loss that was distributed by a major healthcare chain. Not only did I handle videography, lighting and editing, but also, I designed all of the motion graphics.
CBS News - New York
I started working in the mailroom at Black Rock, but quickly moved up to the stock room and then to The CBS News Film/Tape Library where I handled customer service, data entry and storage of archival footage for all broadcasts, and
retrieved the footage as needed for producers and outside customers. After just a few years, I was promoted to supervisor, which added to my duties warehouse storage policies, database management, employee supervision, training and scheduling and assigning more than a dozen department employees.
I decided to leave the library and became a technician/editor for CBS News. My hard work and talent allowed me to work for many CBS News broadcasts, including “CBS News Sunday Morning," where the editors were known as the network’s best. I was responsible for setting up broadcast equipment in both domestic and international locations and feeding via satellite day-of-air news segments for all CBS News broadcasts.
